  • This virus usually installs with other software that is ad-based. There are also some web sites which will exploit flaws in the system to automatically download and run the virus code on your computer.
How do I remove this Virus?
Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista
    There are a few steps involved to remove this Virus.

    Procedure:

    Download CCleaner

                     Smitrem.exe

                     Spysweeper

                     Update the Antivirus Definitions.

    1. Do MSCONFIG and clear all STARTUP items and REBOOT the system in Normal Mode.

    2. Install CCleaner and RUN the Cleanup Wizard. This should clean up all the crap files from the system.

    3. Extract Smitrem.exe on Desktop and RUN the RUNTHIS.BAT file. Follow the screen instructions. This should also Replace the damaged wininet.dll file with a new copy.

    4. Finally INSTALL SPYSWEEPER. Update the definitions and RUN a FULL SYSTEM SCAN to remove any left over spyware infections.

    5. Then Finally Run a FULL SYSTEM VIRUS SCAN.

    MANUALLY REPLACING THE WININET.DLL FILE

    1) Hit Ctrl + Alt + Del.

    2) Click on Application and Click on New Task.

    3) Click on Browse and then Click on My Computer and then Double Click on C:

    4) Double Click on i386 Folder (Incase this Folder is Not Present then Use the Windows XP CD and Look for that Folder)

    5) Right Click on the Wininet.dll File and Click on Copy.

    6) Now Browse to the Windows/System32 Folder and then Paste it in there (If Paste is not an Option then use Ctrl + V)

    7) Close all the Windows and once again hit Ctrl + Alt + Del.

    8) Click on Application and Click on New Task and in there type in "explorer.exe" and hit Enter.

    9) Your Desktop should Appear.
